It comes as no surprise to discover the police are failing to tackle anti-social behaviour. According to a new report by Denis O'Connor, the chief inspector of constabulary, the police's response to reports of harassment, vandalism and verbal abuse is "inadequate".
The conventional wisdom used to be that a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged. These days, any conservative who has been mugged or burgled, and who's reported it to the police in the hope that they'll follow up, has become a raving liberal, so great is his or her loss of faith in the forces of law and order.
