Pity the poor Hollywood Foreign Press Association. They thought they'd seen the back of Ricky Gervais after his gratuitously offensive turn as the host of last January's Golden Globes in which he sprayed insults at the geriatric hacks and their celebrity guests. Philip Berk, the Association's president, harrumphed that Gervais had "crossed the line" and wouldn't be considered for hosting duties again. Unfortunately, NBC, the American television network that pays handsomely for the broadcast rights to the Globes, feels differently. The network has more or less ordered the Association to bring Gervais back, not least because last year's awards ceremony was watched by just under 17 million viewers in America. With typical forbearance, Gervais has promised that his performance next January will be "biblical" and at least 10 times as offensive as his previous outing. (To read more, click here.)
