Doing Question Time is always a bit nerve wracking. You've no way of knowing what questions are going to come up beforehand so you have to mug up on a vast range of subjects just in case. Jeremy Hunt, Culture Secretary and one of my fellow panellists on last night's show, told me that when he was asked to do Question Time in opposition he cleared his diary and spent a week preparing for it. Now that he's in government he doesn't have that luxury, but I thought he did pretty well nonetheless. (To read more, click here.)

I had the misfortune to see your stupid talking-potato-head-with-spectacles on a clip of Question Time where you were getting worked up about BP (not DP) and how we were going to kick American arse on Saturday night. I felt embarrassed for you over your Sun-like sentiments, but not half as embarrassed as you must be feeling now that the Yankee arse has emerged remarkably unscathed.

Toby - I also saw your obnoxious behaviour on Question Time, particularly when you got yourelf into a lather about BP, inexplicably culminating in a tirade about how the UK was going to show up the US in the World Cup. How do you like that final score?!!! I loved it and smiled as I remembered your unnecesarily nasty and smug attitude on QT Thursday.

Toby, Getting uptight about anti-British sentiment in the US over the BP story is one thing, but lapsing into a retaliatory froth about the impending humilition of said Americans on the football pitch appealed to the worst in populist sentiment, and was predictably greeted with a stirringly Bulldog-like round of applause from the audience. Agincourt, Waterloo, the Battle of Britain. Hoorah ! Victory is never a given, except to the arrogant and smug. Please forgive me for the frisson of schadenfreude (sorry, lapsing into latte-slurping bonga-bonga language here) I experienced when Yankee ass was effetely fondled rather than soundly kicked. Don't take yourself so seriously mate, life's too short.
