The BBC's next director-general should be a Tory

I've been thinking about who should be the next director-general of the BBC, now that Mark Thompson has announced he'll step down after the Olympics, and one thing is clear: he should be a Tory. Not necessarily an "out" Tory – that would play into the hands of those on the left who accuse the BBC of giving the Coalition an easy ride _– but a Tory nevertheless. (To read more, click here.)

'I mean I love the BBC,& want it to thrive.I don't just mean R4 & Dickens adapations, good though they are.Nor do I mean the BBC News Channel,Daily Politics & Newsnight,I mean I love the institution & what it embodies about Britain & our values......'Ah excellent Mr Young;another deluded apologist for the great con/scam/racket/rip-off that is Thompson's BigBroadcastingCharity. You think The News Channel is an effective/efficient use of funds?Next time you watch, during a wkday,up to 22:30,ask yourself why are there two people sitting at a newsdesk.Ask Thompson, why Huwy-does b-all Edwards is conveniently found a one hr NChannel slot-5 to 6pm,only Mon to Thursday.Ask Thompson why Snoddy is found a 15 minute slot.Ask Thompson why Higham is kept on the payroll, just to present a 10 minute 'Meet the Author con on The NChannel.Ask Thompson why Esler is kept on the payroll just to present a 30 minute Dateline London prog,[& standing in,occasionally,at the Newsnight con, when crook Paxman doesn't manage a three night scam]which is shown twice at the wkends.By rejigging the shift pattern & running only solos, there is a saving of nine persons at the wasteful/conning NChannel,so why hasn't Boarden implimented this? This is the female,we are told, who, could be a replacement for Thompson;a female who, recently, suddenly, said she could find £1m of savings at the newsroom. As clueless as Thompson & that other Thompson, the COO,who again we are told could possibly be a replacement for cowboy Thompson. You mention the R4,yet another example of misuse of funds The Today prog;is Humphrys a £470k/yr vfm or does b-all Naughtie at £200k or does b-all,dreadful Montague at £150k?There are five filchers at The Today prog, five of them milking licence funds, for a few hrs of repetitve wittering each wk;but Thompson doesn't have a ruddy clue about vfm [he thought Ross was excellent value at £18m over three yrs],so we continue to see funds wasted on so many, doing so little each wk.So much of what the BBC does has nothing to do with providing a quality, diverse, vfm prog offering,it's purely a means for a cohort of deadwood coasters to carry on filching/lifting licence funds.Take a look at what Cohen & Hadlow, the two [con]troller crooks who are paid >£500k/yr to provide Racket 1&2 TV with progs, are doing;a combined budget of £1.5bn being frittered/squandered on hrs of time-filling,same every yr ****;quiz, food,& other repetitive garbage, just to fill the schedule time.A roster of presenters-do you think paying three people a combined £4m/yr to sit in a studio & present Racket of the Day[Match of the Day]is a correct/vfm use of funds? If there was a competent director general in charge, rather than a cowboy,it would be £2k/prog for Mr Linekar,& £1k for each of the other two;that's the value for what they do,which is time filling wittering. And a controller of BBC1 is £125k/yr,BBC2,£100k/yr,for people who actually input with credible prog offerings.Right across the BBC,that's national & regional output,TV & radio it's just a roster of news,& other presenters running cosy, licence funded scams[do you think Derbyshire,R2 presenter-dreadful,shouldn't be on the payroll-is being correctly remunerated, when she spends £25k/yr-her own money-commuting daily to the new Salford Media Centre,by plane?]I don't think you with your rose-tinted BBC specs, are able to understand what needs to change;the BBC doesn't require another arty, leftie cowboy,[agreed!]it requires someone with the nous to bring the correct values to prog & presenter spend;that means bringing in someone, rather than having more of the same Thompson type nonsense, from one of the present bunch of scam merchants.

Toby
I challenge you to watch the first 10 minutes of Date Line London broadcast last weekend and not conclude that this was propaganda from some country which hated Britain.
