My latest Sun column: Why did Cameron not accept the Reckless amendment?

I watched the Prime Minister suffer a humiliating defeat in the House of Commons on Wednesday night.

And I couldn’t help wondering why he’d chosen to make a stand over his position in the EU budget negotiations later this month.

With the exception of a few die-hard Europhiles, everyone agrees that a rise in the EU’s budget would be absolutely unconscionable in the current economic climate. People across Europe are having to tighten their belts, so why should fat cat officials in Brussels get a pay rise? Britain is already contributing £15 billion a year – £15 billion too much, in my view. Any more, and people will start burning the flag of Europe in the streets. (To read more, click here.)

Agreed. DB=man of principle. Would be great to hear him on LBC (although he may be a little too whimsical for them).
